    Pretty cool.
Philadelphia hosted part of the mothball fleet for a number of years, and driving in through the main gate to work at the shipyard brought you past cruiser row.
I am pretty sure the Newport News was there but I do not remember the others.

Watching that wonderful film strip made me again wonder…now how is that female cannon cocker thing going to work?

Newport News didn’t last long in the mothball fleet. Turret 2 was messed up on the Vietnam gun line and no longer functioned (a friend was originally assigned to turret 2 but was moved the day before the explosion). Last I saw of the mothball fleet roll in the 80s, Salem was the only one left in the mothball fleet. I saw another list about 12 years ago and even Salem was gone.
I think we are going to regret the big Navy going away.
