Wow, the bit about the three phase electrical hookup floored me. When I worked in small breweries, our electrician said; after intial hookup to a three phase supply, motor direction was a crap shoot, could be all ahead, could be reverse. Never thought the same might be true when loading a nuke.

(And, no, motor direction is only a crap shoot if you’re changing brands. L1 / L2 / L3 should always be the same when going between two motors from the same brand, and DEFINITELY from the same product family. If you go from a Baldor to a Leeson, though, or Leeson to someone else, then you might be in for some fun times re: spinny-direction.)
