San Diego Weekend

So, I’m heading for San Diego this weekend to meet up with some old friends. But I’ll have plenty of free time to do my own thing as well. I’ve already hit the Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum hard. I’ll probably hit the Air and Space museum again. I have no interest whatsoever in…

So, I’m heading for San Diego this weekend to meet up with some old friends. But I’ll have plenty of free time to do my own thing as well. I’ve already hit the Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum hard. I’ll probably hit the Air and Space museum again. I have no interest whatsoever in visiting SeaWorld or the zoo. What other cultural highlights should be on my agenda?

    Well, let’s see here… MCRD isn’t too far away and I know they have a pretty decent museum 🙂 There are other museums in Balboa Park like the Museum of Man, Automotive Museum, the model railroad, natural history, and more. You can stop by Captain’s Cove in Seaport Village for some cool nautical stuff, go to Point Loma Seafood for some great lunch, and then there’s also the Old Pt. Loma Lighthouse up near Fort Rosecrans.
    If you haven’t been to Old Town yet, you might like it! There are some neat historical sites like the Whaley House (supposed to be VERY haunted), shops, etc. You could also go visit one or more of the old Spanish missions 🙂 Head on up to La Jolla and enjoy the coastline, places like Symbolic Motors (classics and exotics), have coffee or beer/wine at the Pannikin…
    One of the reasons I miss San Diego so much is that there was always so much to see and do.

    Here are a few ideas. Visit Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and pay respects to Lex. Go to the top of Mount Soledad and enjoy a great 360 degree view of La Jolla, Pacific Beach, the Coronado Islands and on south to Mexico. Great tribute to Vets from all wars atop Mt. Soledad, also. Drive down Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach and have a brew and burger at one of the many bars and restaurants. Go to NAVSTA and see if there is an LCS pierside (yeah I know maybe not a good idea there). San Diego is a great place.
