  • How to enable replays in World of Warships

I was going to make a video, but man, Jingles is so much better at it than me, so just watch him. And note some of the different view controls available as well.

If you have a replay you’re pretty proud of, go ahead and email it to me. Be sure to take screenshots of the victory and score pages. But understand, you have to screenshot them immediately after battle, as they won’t show from the replay.

  • Chant du Départ: Those Damned Engineers!

Antoine Gaudry set his hammer down just for a moment. He was shivering uncontrollably now, he stared at the simple tool, one of the tools that Général Eblé, who had disobeyed the Emperor himself, had managed to save. This simple hammer which had come all the way from France, traveled deep into Russia, and now lay on this rough hewn bridge over the Berezina River. So far from La Patrie.

The snapping of musket fire, the thump of cannon, and the screams of men in battle came from the far bank. The enemy was close, the bridge was nearly finished. Soon the remnants of La Grande Armee could cross over and continue the bitter retreat. Perhaps this river would slow the pursuit long enough to get away. To get back to France.

Not one, but two history lessons about Engineers.

  • Law Lets I.R.S. Seize Accounts on Suspicion, No Crime Required – The New York Times

ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa — For almost 40 years, Carole Hinders has dished out Mexican specialties at her modest cash-only restaurant. For just as long, she deposited the earnings at a small bank branch a block away — until last year, when two tax agents knocked on her door and informed her that they had seized her checking account, almost $33,000.

The Internal Revenue Service agents did not accuse Ms. Hinders of money laundering or cheating on her taxes — in fact, she has not been charged with any crime. Instead, the money was seized solely because she had deposited less than $10,000 at a time, which they viewed as an attempt to avoid triggering a required government report.

“How can this happen?” Ms. Hinders said in a recent interview. “Who takes your money before they prove that you’ve done anything wrong with it?”

    The federal government does.

I've got a friend who is going through this right now. It's damned infuriating, and just another piece of evidence that the government has weaponized itself against the citizenry.

  • Alert 5 » U.S. Army’s new launcher fired AIM-9X and Longbow Hellfire at UAV targets – Military Aviation News

The Longbow Hellfire was fired at White Sands missile range on Mar. 25 and four days later, the AIM-9X was fired from the same platform. The U.S. Army says it has recently found success in turning the Longbow Hellfire air-to-ground anti-tank missile into a surface-to-air interceptor for destroying unmanned aerial vehicle targets.

Both tests were conducted as part of the Engineering Demonstration of the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2-Intercept (IFPC Inc 2-I).

    There's video at the link.

Basically, the Army has come to realize that almost every common missile system can fit within a relatively small container, even those missile not designed for containerized launch. That has the benefit of keeping the missiles free from dust and moisture.

And for the most part, fire and forget missiles just need an azimuth and elevation to launch, and will guide themselves after that.

For those missiles that need offboard guidance, that's probably a little harder, but still should be quite doable. That's more a networking problem than a launcher issue.

  • FIDAE 2016: South Korea to pave way for further S-3 Viking sales | IHS Jane’s 360

Lockheed Martin expects that the procurement of its S-3 Viking maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft by South Korea will pave the way for further sales of the type to at least three other operators, a company official told IHS Jane's on 30 March.

Speaking at the FIDAE Airshow in Santiago, Clay Fearnow, Lockheed Martin's director of maritime patrol programmes, said that the approval that is anticipated in the coming months of the sale to the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) could open the way for further sales to two other Asian nations (one of which he identified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), and one South American nation.

"We are talking to three other countries [besides South Korea] with regard to the S-3. If the South Korean programme is approved, then we expect the aircraft to really take off," Fearnow said, adding that interested nations are waiting on the South Korean deal to be finalised before committing.

South Korea, Vietnam, maybe a couple other nations.

You know who maybe ought to look at using the S-3B in the ASW role?

    The United States Navy.
