That's the third attack on Mason this week.

The Houtis only have to get lucky once.

Law of probability alone will be getting uncomfortable sooner or later. And all it takes is one time something on the ship going tits up at the wrong moment

So the Iranians are using the Houtis to do live fire drills at the Navy, testing responses, and effectiveness.
And the response is being constrained to targeting radar sites many days after the launches, which has the likely effect of blowing up sand.
Perhaps a more immediate response would be more effective?

But for an Iowa or Des Moines to sail in and lay down the law.

Well, third time is NOT the charm this time. I wonder when it will be the charm then?
Still, nuke it from space or the sky to make sure.

Ned, you mean… you’re one of those people that thinks there’s no replacement for gray things offshore pounding the ever living fuck out of things with NGFS? Who thinks TLAMs are such a cold and impersonal way of doing things?
Myself, I think that the visible ship right there off the coast is a pleasant little ‘fuck you’ to anyone on shore. Not only did you not hit us at a distance, but we can come right into your backyard without fear and shoot you up.
That said… Mason’s going to have to go home for rearm soon… can’t fill VLS tubes at sea anymore.

LT Rusty, we are on the same wavelength. Large grey warships that hurl explosive shells from within view of the recipients make a distinct point.
Oh, and just to be sure, my nick has nothing to do with the military (I got all that from Dad, USAF 3 yrs, USAFR 23 yrs) but everything to do with original SNL.
That said, I did not know that the US Navy had lost UNREP capability for VLS. Given what’s about to happen in the Black & Baltic Seas, we might want to fix that.

How long before the USS Mason would need to be resupplied with VLS? Can it do so while underway, or is a port visit needed. Hopefully it would not require coming all the way back to the U.S.

I don’t know what their current loadout is, so I don’t know how long it’ll take before they need to get the tubes refilled.
As for reload underway? There are no reloads possible at sea: the VLS crane was removed in for DDG-79 and following units, because back 20 years ago everyone thought that AAW was obsolete and since the VLS crane couldn’t lift a TLAM they went ahead and removed the crane.
    Gotta be done in port.
