There’s breaking news coming out of Turkey: according to local sources, a warplane has been downed near Syria’s border with Turkey.

A few grainy, cell-phone-quality photos have emerged, showing what appears to be a Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer in flames prior to impacting the ground a short time later. We don’t know the exact circumstances of the incident, but it appears both occupants of the stricken Fencer were able to eject, and helicopters have been launched to recover the airmen.

Look, I just woke up, and there’s conflicting reports on the status of the crew. But Turkey has made it abundantly clear that they will brook absolutely no intrusions into their air space. As is their right.

If the US attacked the Russians every time they penetrated our ADIZ, WWIII would have started in the ’50s. I guess Turkish fighters don’t fly very well with their wheels down.

    About time.
Curious to see how well we will live up to our NATO Treaty obligations when the inevitable fallout happens.

Article 5 is unlikely to apply, given that the Turks started the shooting.

I wonder if Germany will. Fraud Merkel makes it very questionable.

    Article 5
“The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area…..”

I think the applicable part is
“…such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force…”
Plenty of wiggle room there, even for dunces like O & K.

Something like this was inevitable, given the great, reeking, clusterfumble that Iraq et al. has become.

Time to quote Fred Thompson again; “This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it.”

My vote is to get the f out and let the rest of those morons fight it out.

Thats why Article 5 should be ignored in this case. If the Turks want to be bellicose retards and poke Russia with a stick, oh please, do go on….

As I have said before: We are going to have to fight Russia and China; so it’s best to do so before they become even more powerful.

P.S.- And before we become even weaker.

The Soviets shot our planes down plenty of times during the Cold War, both in and near their airspace, and it didn’t start WWIII.

The Russians also shot down that airliner over Kamchatka – what I meant by wheels down is that the Turks should have escorted the Russian out of their air space or forced the Russian to land. Some sources are saying that it was a Russian photo recon bird. Shooting at a SAR helicopter is also bad form unless your object is to foster greater hostilities.
I am no apologist for the Russians, but the Turks are initiating hostilities here and they shouldn’t expect article V protection. Perhaps the Turks should ponder the ramifications of the loss of the Dardanelles if the Russians decided to go to war.

The Turks are defending their own airspace, how is that initiating hostilities? It is nothing more than what the Russians have repeatedly done.

I imagine this is far from the first Russian intrusion of this kind.

Also, the Soviets shot down that airliner over the Sea of Japan after it had already left their airspace — and it was far from the first time they shot down something that was close to, but not in, their airspace — so they are in no position to complain.

Um, so if I break into your house, I’m armed, and you shoot me, does that make you the aggressor??

Our enemies know that the US hasn’t been this weak for a very long time. If it becomes likely that Hillary will be elected (I am making the sign of the cross at even the suggestion) they may wait to allow her to deplete our forces even further. On the other hand, if it becomes apparent that a conservative candidate will prevail (Ted Cruise for example) they may strike very early in his administration before the transfer of power is complete. I also expect that in this case the embedded fifth columnists will be activated to do as much damage from the inside as is possible (this will be more than taking the “W” keys off of the keyboards at the White House).

No attack while the Mulatto Jackanapes is in office. His job is to equivocate, obfuscate, demoralize and degrade the nation.

Either way eventually, WE WILL BE ATTACKED – that is my unfortunate conclusion.
