Despite the “Fail” in the title, there’s no hilarity here. Just a vivid reminder that you must ALWAYS follow the four rules of firearm safety.

  1. All guns are always loaded. (Treat them so!)
  2. Never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target (and you have made the decision to shoot).
  4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

    Sounds like something in the action wasn’t quite right.

    Just about everyone killed with a firearm accidentally was killed with an “unloaded” weapon.

    Think of how many kids remove the magazine of a semi auto pistol, start playing with it and someone’s killed.

    Forgetting about the one in the chamber.

    That appears to be what they call slam-fire. That’s when the firing pin’s inertia carries it into the primer when the bolt slams shut. I understand AR-15/10 are prone to do this under some conditions. You could have full auto fire without dropping the hammer.

    With the AR you only get doubles and triples if the disconnector is worn, or if someone installed the disconnector spring upside down.

    Or, of course, if someone did some unauthorized work on the hammer or disconnector with a grinder.

    Or swapped the bolt carrier, Selector, firing-pin, and trigger with parts from an M-16…

    Nope, still wouldn’t do anything, unless you drilled the extra hole and put in the other part, the other spring, and the other pin as well.

    Three words to go with the Four Rules, well for most semi auto’s any way.
    1. Mag (drop)
    2. Slide (open)
    3. Flag (in chamber)

    Rule number 5;

    If you find yourself in the presence of someone who ignores Rules 1 to 4, get as far away as you can as fast as you can.
