And, John Mayer, a military health and energy analyst with Booz Allen Hamilton, added the Pentagon should be under no obligation to continue providing “free health” care to those who have retired from military service and have access to health care either through their employers or the Affordable Care Act.

“Having a program where they can go in and get free health care, and do it as often as they want seems to be a burden that the American public shouldn’t have to bear,” Mayer said, speaking of the military retiree population who uses Tricare.

The growing cost of health care is a longtime concern for the Pentagon and is one of the benefits being reviewed by the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission, an independent panel commissioned by Congress to review military pay and benefits, to include housing, health care and retirement packages.

TriCare For Life has been a godsend for my mother. She’s received excellent health care through civilian health care providers, and has not had the usual hassle that civilian insurance programs always seem to put their customers through.

The veteran community, especially military retirees, is a powerful political force. I can’t imagine they won’t vigorously oppose such a betrayal of the families of the military by even considering shunting them from a program that was promised to them unto the utter disaster that is Obamacare.

Civilians that have no idea of the toll life in the military requires really piss me off. I’ve been doing this stuff since 1986, spent more than 7 years separated from family, and usually just suck up whatever aches and pains I have. That me waiting until I retire to take care of myself is a burden? Screw this guy.

Perhaps canceling every government contract Booz-Allen has would be a good way to reduce the “burden” to the taxpayer. One would think that Mr. Mayer’s mid-six figure salary (at least) would fund a lot of Veterans’ health care, especially when the 35% overhead Booz gets is factored in.

I’m wondering…which panel reviews members of Congress pay and benefits. We’re all on the same team in our endeavor to reduce debt etc. Am I missing something?

Here is something I’ve never understood about this need to “push” retirees off of Tricare and into Obamacare. If Obamacare is so great and easy to use, why aren’t retirees flocking to it? I have no emotional attachment to Tricare, if something better came along (like the mythical version of Obamacare I keep hearing about), I’d switched me and my wife to it in an instant.

But we know the answer to that question. Obamacare isn’t working. It needs more “participants” to make the shitty numbers look less shitty. Hence the need to chase everyone out of Tricare.

My wife and I have full time jobs that will, thank the Lord, provide for us if my military retirement and Tricare ever goes away, but I worry for all those retirees out there that are too old or busted up to work.

Why anyone in today’s Armed Forces would volunteer to stay 1 second past there first enlistment or commissioning term is beyond me. My hat is off to ’em, but I fear that they are going to get really screwed over in the not-so-near future….
