Range Day

A longtime reader of the blog has invited me to go shooting today, so no content for now. Hopefully we’ll have some decent pics and vids later.

A good time was had by all today, and some good pictures WERE taken. We got our beloved host wearing the pink earmuffs again – absolutely no double entendre there. 😀

I’m jealous. I actually can’t recall the last time I went to a non-army range, except with my girls, which turned into a debacle. I mean a range where I just burned off lots of ammo and had fun. Tried out other people’s weapons, etc. Still lugging around my same Mini-14 and Baretta 92FS. Had to leave them both behind, though, what with the laws in Germany.

I expect a full range report from you.

Different topic, my younger daughter is shooting on the AJROTC rifle team and hitting in the 250s after the first week or two. Not bad start. We’ll see how it goes.

Took my Colt LEC w/new AutoLok .458 SOCOM upper out yesterday. Big boom, big hole, big fun.

I think the total count on guns was:

    3x AR-15 in 5.56 (various makes and styles, from 16″ w/Nikon M223 scope to a 20″ A5-ish one with an Eotech 512)

    M&P 15-22

    92FS & PX4 Storm subcompact

    Marlin Camp Carbine 9mm

    Glock 21 & 41

Super Redhawk in 44 Mag (or was it a Blackhawk? Can’t remember)

    S&W 66

I think there might have been a couple others, but I can’t remember for positive.

Our host was good enough to provide a half case of XM855 and a couple boxes of .22 LR. I’m impressed – I haven’t seen .22 LR on the shelf anywhere in California in the last two years, and I was even in the store he bought it at a couple hours before him.

Ah, I’ve got the SS15 on my AR, Love it! Wish they’d had the trim ring in stock when I got it though. It’s on my list, someday. Although … the rifle is already heavy enough. :p

So you’re in Germany now? Big changes since I lived there. Bavaria has destroyed Obersalzburg, Chemsee is shut down, and even the housing area I lived in near Stuttgart is back in German hands.

We used to be able to take guns with us and keep them at the Rod and Gun clubs. No more I guess.

I’m surprised at how much I like that SS15. Now I’m trying to decide on optics. Almost ordered an ACOG but my gunsmith said they’re too fragile for the .458. Thought he was blowing smoke but I’ve seen several similar comments online soooo. Any suggestions?

You know, I really don’t. I honestly can’t imagine that the .458 would destroy an ACOG or Eotech, but I’ve heard nothing but horror stories myself. I mean hell – it’s not as bad as a 12ga, so why does it destroy things?
