Saturday marked the 200th anniversary of the British bombardment of Ft. McHenry. The bombardment was watched, from aboard a British ship, by Francis Scott Key, who penned the poem that became, eventually, our national anthem. Notoriously difficult to sing, when sung properly, I still find it moves my very soul.

And yes, that banner still waves, o’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

My wife and I live in Baltimore and went down to the Inner Harbor for the festivities. The ceiling must have been around 500’feet or less with drizzle, but the Blue Angels did a modified show with many VERY low passes over the crowded harbor. Very exciting. The fireworks were on 6 barges anchored in the harbor and were spectacular! (It had cleared up by dark). Very moving show on the lawn of Fort McHenry. Well sung and played by all. We almost did not go because of the weather. Glad we soldiered on.

Whitney Houston is still the queen of the anthem. One of the very few who has sung it correctly and well.

Yeah, I almost linked that. But 1. I don’t like coke-heads, and 2. Thomas is a longtime internet friend. I wanted to share his talent with my friends.

    I can see where #1 would be a problem…

No problem on this end with your final selection. 🙂
