Prowler In Action

Actually, further research reminds me Charlie Hunter was COMMATVAQWINGPAC from 80-82. Charlie Hunter was a renowned A-6 Intruder pilot, and a recipient of the Navy Cross, the second highest award for valor our nation can bestow.

Interesting to see that the ECM pods were powered by a Ram Air Turbine Generator (RAT), meaning that the onboard generators couldn’t generate enough wattage to power the pods. In a previous life I worked on ALQ-XX pods in the AF. Sure did hate having to change the bearings in those RATs when pilots would overspeed them. Eventually went on to Electronic Reconnaisance with the U2-R and RC-135 as an Airborne Maintenance Technician (AMT) but ended my career back on an active Jamming Platform EC-130-H.

Wow, talk about Blast From The Past! Spent many a sheckel on Oly there, played a lot of cribbage with the barmaid (who would never go out with me), and played a lot of 8-ball. The OHT was our hangout, circa late 60’s.

    Thanks for the memories.
