It’s a T-28 OR a T-95. Depending. It held both nomeclatures. Craig and I have both posted on it before.

But sharp eyes will notice there IS an aircraft. And really sharp eyes will spot the SECOND armored vehicle in the pic.

I am not sure about the second piece of armor. Is it a member of the Patton family? The flat front plate makes me want to say it’s an LVT, but the plat plate may not be part of the vehicle the turret is on.

It’s actually either a C or an M model. Hard to tell because i really can’t see the rotor system. Look at the air inlet that is the clue that it isn’t a D or an H.

T-95 at Fort Knox right? It sort of developed out of the Pershing I thought (that’s where the powerplant came from I read). Is the second tank an MBT 70? Or am I seeing too many angles there?

And now I know I’m wrong. But I used my guess. Damn.

    It’s a T28, not a T95.

There’s one really big clue in the picture …

The T-95 became the T-28. I’ll give credit for either answer. Much as a Skyraider can be described as an AD or an A-1.

OK, I tend to think of the double windows on the sliding door as coming in with the D. Thank you!

There’s only a single window on the sliding door. It’s a short hulled Huey.

As for the second armored vehicle, I’ll confess, I’m not sure. It looks an awful lot like the turret of an M551 Sheridan. I think the rectangular thing that looks like the hull may in fact just be a sign or other artifact.

I have seen the T-95/T-28. It is truly massive.

The second armored vehicle, I think, is an XM551. It has the front thing that I don’t know what its for. Here is a link to another picture that I think is the same vehicle. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/XM551_Pilot_4.jpg

The coupola and, what wiki calls, the surfbaord is why I think its XM551 and not M551.

Bill, I think you’re right. That pic, it seems to me, is another pic of the same vehicle from a different view.

And the “surfboard” is a trim vane, to divert the bow wave of the vehicle as it swims through water. On the M113, the trim vane was simply a slab of plywood.

That does look like the same tank, from a different viewpoint. It would appear Bill wins this round.

Just checked my archive photos. the vehicle in the background is marked as XM551. The big monster is the T28 as per the bumper numbers

Gawd, imagine what you would have to do if you threw a track to teh inside on that beast!?!?!?

The whole outer track assemblies are removeable, so that would make it a little less difficult.
